NAGPUR:
The Indian badminton fraternity, celebrating the spectacular success of its
shuttlers in the 20th Commonwealth
Games held in Glasgow, was rocked by the overage controversy involving
junior players participating in the nationals.
Age verification tests conducted by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) have revealed that many junior players have misrepresented their date of births. Cracking a whip on the guilty players, the BAI has banned five of them from participating in any junior tournament.
The BAI has also listed five other players who can only participate in the U-19 category. Further, the association has named 16 players-including eight girls-who have been ordered to take part in the higher age group than the one they are participating in at present.
